POPULATION

The Hispanic and Latino population skyrocketed 61% between 1990-2001, not only exploding from 21.9 million to 35.3 million, but also making it the fastest growing ethnic group in America, and currently representing 12.6% of the total USA population. Between 1980 and 1990, the Latino population increased by 53 percent. This rate of growth is more than five times that of the total U.S. population (9.5 percent) and about eight times that of non-Latinos (6.6 percent). About half of this growth is attributed to the natural increase in the population, and the other half is the result of immigration.

Similar growth ratio has been developed in New York State, becoming the third state (tie with Florida) with the largest Hispanic population in the country. The CNY Latino is going to be promoted and distributed in one of the most accelerated Hispanic growth areas in the state of New York (excluding New York City). Since the content and material published in this periodical is predominantly dedicated to the general reading audience, but oriented for the Hispanic and Latino population, our geographical coverage should support the expected circulation and substantiate the anticipated distribution plans. So our expectations are to "fully" cover the Latino and Hispanic population, and at the same time, a small (but noticeable) non-Hispanic residents in the Central New York.

Finally, for this section we also want to take in consideration and include two other populations sectors we are planning to target as potential readers, and promote our paper towards it: the Latino Youth (Hispano population less than 18-year old), and the Business population, most specifically, the Hispanic Owned business population. The analysis and target market for the Youth will be prepared and presented at a later time; however, we are ready to respond and provide for the other sector. Contrary to the standard population share, the Hispanic Owned business in New York state rank fourth in the nation instead of third (Florida is much higher in this sector); however, the growth ratio has quickly increased for the last three years, as reflection to parallel immigration intensification and escalation of Hispanic birth. Content dedicated for this sector will be developed to increase and maintain the amount of local readers audience in the business area.
