HISTORY

As explained in the About Us section of this website, the CNY Latino was a venture project started by Hugo Acosta, with the intentions to provide a general interest publication to the Hispanic community in Central New York, and at the same time, to provide a vehicle for communication to this ethnic group. Hugo's intentions was not only to concentrate to (and from) the Latino population, but also include and make participate, the non-Hispanic audience; one of the many reasons to have this publication made in both "English and Spanish"

Although by the time of its creation (beginning of 2004) there was not much indication of a noticeable advertising demand or at least a visible commercial promotional interest, the informal minor analysis made among local establishments, and related organizations promised a potential interest for its existence, with the possible attention to participate in the sponsorship and patronage of the paper. Now, by the beginning of 2005, many companies and businesses have realized not only the suddenly increase of the Hispanic consumer in the Central New York area, but also the capital expenditure they provide to the local economy.

This experimental project started with personal investment as a trial to see how the local readership will respond; now, with an increased demand for more distribution, wider coverage, and more frequency, it has become a highly wanted reading material to the 84% of the Latino population in Central New York.

Currently the CNY Latino newspaper is being developed and put together by a staff of several volunteers that play the roles of writers, translators, editors, and distributors. This development is being supervised and managed by its founder, Hugo Acosta. The distribution is performed the 3rd or 4th of each month, by delivering several bundles in several allocation points, where the local public can pick up the individual editions, FREE of charge. The CNY Latino has also a paid delivery system, where a subscription order can be made to have each monthly edition delivered to your house or office.
